BFA thesis exhibition explored the dichotomies of “home” and “other” through mapmaking, patterning and Islamic and South Asian cultural motifs. the piece itself was painted over to represent the washing away of Islamic art and architecture from the mainstream narrative within art history and the destruction of Islamic culture due to post-colonial war and terror. the center cloth or “mihrab” represents Islamic female empowerment through the story of Mary’s spirituality.
